The first dance is one of the most special wedding day moments! For newlyweds, it's the first dance together as a married couple in front of your closest family and friends, and while there are countless love songs to choose from, most couples look for one that holds a special meaning to them.
Narrowing down music choices for these big moments such as the first dance shouldn't be stressful, which is why Downbeat LA loves helping couples find their perfect song! For a more modern approach, here are some brand new First Dance favorites for Fall 2017:
At a recent performance in Santa Barbara, Downbeat LA had the pleasure of working alongside today's featured vendor, The 805 Camera Bus. Known as being Santa Barbara's only mobile photo booth company, this camera-on-wheels is a converted 1971 VW bus that combines charm, vintage and modern appeal into one epic photo op.
The company has affectionately named the bus "Lola", and claims she loves attending all types of events! You can customize the backdrop to be whatever matches your event's theme, and your photos are available in strips on the spot. The attendants are super helpful and the props provided are a blast!
Gold Standard singers even had the opportunity to snap some photos between sets at the last event, and we can't wait to visit Santa Barbara again for a performance in hopes that Lola will be in attendance as well!

Wedding celebrations are made up of so many magical moments throughout both the ceremony and reception. While newlywed couples and their guests want to party the night away, there are often special dances and traditions, such as the bouquet toss and cake-cutting, that are factored into the timeline of events.
hile these traditions provide amazing photo opportunities and memories for a lifetime, they should never be made to feel like an imposition to guests who are enjoying the party. Instead, they should be strategically - and tastefully - placed during the reception to avoid any awkward pauses or breaks in dancing or dinner.
Here are some tips to ensure the party doesn’t stop for these traditional wedding moments:
1. Schedule moments immediately following dinner! Before the band or DJ start their first dance set, go ahead and cut the cake (bonus: dessert is served promptly) and get the special dances underway. This will avoid interrupting the dancing later on.
2. Discuss with your DJ/MC ahead of time and ask them to seamlessly integrate these moments into the dance sets! If your Master of Ceremonies makes clear announcements to guests to stay on the dance floor surrounding the bride and room, they are made to feel a part of everything instead of just spectators.
3. Throw away the rule book and opt out of these moments completely! If the idea of dancing with your parents in front of 100 of your closest family and friends makes you uncomfortable, know that you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do! Feel free to make your own rules and traditions, it’s your day after all!

AMFM recently performed at a beautiful wedding at the Ritz Carlton, Laguna Niguel. We fell in love with the gorgeous florals scattered throughout the venue, thanks to the full service event design company, Square Root Designs.
With notable designs that have been consistently recognized on an international level, it's easy to see why this amazing company gets so much recognition:
Square Root had produced and executed events in Japan, Miami, Nevada, Utah, and New York. Our work has been covered by a wide range of print and media outlets, including shows on Bravo, VH1, HGTV, the Style channel, and many more. As of 2013, their floral designs for the property of The Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel have been established as the stapled look for the Ritz Carlton brand throughout the world and will be a standard for their properties.
Our friends at Hoo Films captured footage from the event, and you can see just how beautiful the arrangements are from Square Root!

Last night, AMFM traveled to Newport Beach to perform at the gorgeous five-star luxury venue, The Resort at Pelican Hill. All of the bands at Downbeat LA have had the opportunity to visit and perform at weddings and special events that are exclusively held on the Mar Vista property, which are always stunning.
From the outdoor space that's perfect for ceremonies and cocktail hours, to the grand ballroom area where dinners and receptions take place, the scenery and the entire staff are simply the best and we love being a part of the team when we visit!
"With gorgeous views from nearly every vantage point and a location that is conveniently not too far from home, Pelican Hill is the ideal locale to enjoy the best of everything Southern California has to offer. Unwind at the Coliseum Pool, stroll along the shoreline at our neighboring beaches, or tee off for a round of world-class golf as you soak up the radiant OC sunshine."

The A-List had the honor of being a part of a gorgeous wedding at Simi Valley's Camp Alonim. The venue was packed with beautiful people who all came together for the celebration, and the band with their full horn section kept the dance floor packed all night.
There are so many things to consider when planning a wedding, but one of the most important things to be excited for - and not stressed about - is the music and entertainment for the celebration! Whether you're a music lover or not, deciding on all of the music for your big day can seem overwhelming, but you have access to more resources than you realize!
For ceremonies, cocktail hours, dinners and dancing, Downbeat LA recommends tapping into the following resources to create a memorable and meaningful playlist for your wedding:
1. Wedding Band/DJ
If you're hiring musicians to perform, they can help you create the ultimate song list from their experience and repertoire. Don't be afraid to ask them for advice when it comes to the different parts of the wedding day timeline and what music would work best, they're the professionals after all!
2. Wedding Guests
We've seen couples include a line for guests to fill out their favorite song or music genres when sending back RSVPs in the invitations! This is a great way to find out what your friends and family want to hear and incorporate it throughout the day and evening.
3. What Songs Are Meaningful To You?
If there are songs that are especially meaningful to you as a couple, make sure they make it into the set list! Save it for a first dance, or make sure it gets playing at some point during the party to create a special moment when you hear it.
We all listen to music across various apps and programs, which all have amazing playlists built in for every occasion and mood. Do some research on Spotify to see what wedding day music might be popular and let your wedding band or DJ know!
